Aquarium keeping is a fascinating hobby combining numerous aspects... contact with nature, stupendous underwater landscapes, bright green vegetation with healthy, lively and spectacularly coloured fish. When you observe an aquarium, you immediately understand the meaning of the balance of nature, the perfect correlation between the various vital processes.
In other words, whatever the size, the aquarium is a genuine ecosystem you have to take care of. Nothing too demanding though, given that latest generation aquariums are equipped with everything it takes to reduce the work involved in setting them up and maintaining them to a minimum, leaving you free to enjoy the fantastic world you have created to the full. There are two types of underwater environment you can recreate, saltwater and freshwater. The latter is the commonest and simplest to manage. Once you have decided which of these two habitats you find most satisfying, you can let your imagination run riot choosing fish and plants.
But take care, to share the same space they must come from the same biotope or at least be compatible.
